Want to Buy Some Dirt?

dirt.jpgHere’s a really far reaching business strategy, selling dirt. That’s right DIRT. A couple of guys have set up a business in Dublin to sell dirt that is directly from the “mother country” to spread over their graves. Sounds goolish, but if that’s what people want, you gotta give the people what the people want. Making money is making money, find the niche and go from there.

I think this business plan exemplifies the true power of marketing at the highest level. The boys are now thinking of speading their business worldwide. And why not, again if there is a demand for DIRT then why not satisfy the need and get rich in the process. I heard about dirty business, but this one takes the cake.

Wal-Mart Expands Cheap Drugs

Wal-Mart.gif

My all time heros, Wal-Mart has just recently expanded it’s $4 drug program to Kansas, Missouri. What a great retailer!

Of course, now all the other loser retailer companies are scrambbling to match this fabulous deal, what a joke. Wal-Mart’s program consists of 300+ generic drugs that cover a 30 day period for the consumer. I guess the large drug companies will have to answer the question , how come Wal-Mart can deliver on lower prices to the consumer, while they, the large drug companies continue to make billions of dollars screwing consumers every single day? Hum.
Drugs, of all things, should in this North American continent, not be costly or an issue for anyone to get their hands on. We are, by the way talking about human lives at stake here. What is the problem? I guess the value of human lives is for the rich folks, Wal-Mart gets it, we probably don’t want to go there, do we!

A Penny Saved is Worth a Fortune

coins.jpgHave you ever really looked at all those pesky pennies that pile up on your desk drawer or tables? You might want to take a second look at them now. Turn those coins into real cash.

I know that we usually don’t pay any attention to pennies and their useless, bothersome existane, but, a quick look could turn into big bucks or real cash. I’ve said this before, I don’t like cash, carrying around wads of paper or especially coins is a real pain for me. I hate people that walk around clanging with sounds coming from their pockets, get a grip and empty your pockets, check your coins and put them in a jar for future use.

Carmen Electra - Need I Say More!

carmen electra2.jpgThanks to Personal Finance Advice I understand that Carmen Electra has a credit card with her beautiful picture embossed on the card. What a great move for her, branding continues to be large in the celebrity community, just ask Donald Trump. Carmen Electra anything is sellable and a credit card with her picture is way high on the list.

I don’t think there are any unusual benefits from carrying Carmen’s card, however, the boys will certainly recognize her instantly. Casual conversation will ensue for sure, anything Carmen Electra will generate interest and curiosity, and who knows what that could lead to. Nice picture too!

Office Survival 101

invisible man.jpgEver wonder how to survive the office politics or rhetoric? Here are 20 great tips on what to do to survive in the office environment. Having worked in an office all my life I can say that almost all of these are really good tips. How does the most useless person survive or better yet, get promoted?

The one thing that has confused me over my career is how does the “slacker” or “floater” always survive? Demonstrating a total lack of skills, efficiency, ability to get things done or produce results, has always won over the hard working individual looking for affirmation from their boss. It seems to me that the survival mode is defined by “laying low”. Don’t look for frequent encounters with your boss, it brings too many opportunities to give you more work or provide negative feedback. If your satisfied with where you are in the organization, then don’t stand out or be noticed, stay down and let all the frantic activity happen over your head. Maybe by the time management figures you out it’s too late, you have too much tenure to fire you so they continue to let you wonder around doing whatever, they don’t even know what you do. It’s too embarrassing for them to go to Human Resources to fire you because the first question is, how long has this been going on? And of course, it’s been going on for years, so why would H/R support a huge financial package because you, the boss, were asleep at the wheel.

I’ve seen this scenario happen over and over again, especially at large fortune 500 companies. Management is too busy trying to climb the ladder to care what you are doing. Only problem is, once they have climbed that elite mountain and get to the top, they usually fail. Someone down the road figures out that they are incompetent and never should have been promoted in the first place. You see, what these people tend to forget or not realize is this, it’s not you performing the job that matters, it’s your TEAM. If you build a strong team around you, and don’t care or get consumed with the reward system or spotlight, it will come in time on it’s own. Hire good, strong people who are dedicated to you and you will succeed. Create enthusiasm, lead your staff, manage processes, communicate regularly, drive for results and everybody wins.

Wedding Cake Wacko

wedding cake.jpgHow much would you pay for your wedding cake? Would you pay $20 million? Probably not!

A promotional stunt is about to be released on Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills by displaying a $20 million wedding cake drapped in diamonds. Of course no one in their right mind would even consider such a purchase, oopps, maybe Paris Hilton would. Lord knows she could easily afford the cost and for promotional purposes, including diamonds, she is my best guess at taking full advantage of the event. Stay tuned, who knows what might happen.

Wesley Snipes Snatched

wesley snipes.jpgYeah, even the highly paid and influential actors have to pay the piper. The piper in this case is the Government. Wesley Snipes has been indicted for tax fraud, ouch! There are 8 charges of tax fraud totally $12 million, and he has also failed to file tax returns for 6 years, is he stupid or what?

Maybe Snipes has received too many swats upside his head from all the action flicks he’s starred in to realize he’s in deep, deep trouble. These charges are not small by any factor, carrying a possible 16 years in prison. That’s prison, not your corner store jail time. The government considers payment of taxes very seriously and also judges tends to hand out the harhest penalty for abuse.

Why is it that people with all the money don’t have any financial responsibility to pay their taxes like the little guys?

Cash Me Out

cash.jpgNo I’m not talking about cashing in my gambling winnings. I’m referring to lets get rid of “cash”. Why do we need to carry cash? These days with the multitude of plastic everything, why can’t we just use plastic or an embedded reader under the skin to conduct all money transactions?

Cash is heavy, especially the coins, I hate them. Most people empty their pockets at the end of the day into a jar or container and leave it there. I have numerous jars, and metal containers with coins collecting mountains of dust, what a waste. What do you do with them? There’s a coin operated machine you can pour your coins into and get paper money back at 10% discount for handling, seems a little stupid to me. Money is money, why would I do this and lose money for changing coins into paper? Somebody please help me!

Think of the cost savings of manufacturing money. What an incredible process to mine the coins and cut the trees to make paper money. All government controlled of course and yes they do make their own money for manufacturing your money. Haven’t we progressed enough to get rid of this nuisuance and just accept the automation process as is? Stupid is as stupid does.

U.S. Losing $20.5 Billion to Movie Pirates

movie.jpgIn an analysis of figures by the Motion Picture Association of America, they claim that losses in the movie industry are largely due to pirating. Hum, they probably should consider why this is occurring and then dedicate themselves to solving the problem instead of whining about it.

My last trip to the movies cost me a total of $25. That was for one pass, a drink and popcorn. I think that’s outrageous. The only reason I decided to go to the movies was to experience watching the film on a huge screen with excellent audio sound. I chose not to wait for the DVD to come out and simply rent it. The rental would have cost me far less, in fact I could have purchased the movie and watched it several times in the comfort of my own home.

So why are there people out there pirating movies? The answer is simple, as usual, MONEY. It comes down to basic economics. With the cost of breathing going up steadily, take for example fuel costs in the past year, people are pushed to save a buck anywhere they can. So if you have something that I want at a large discounted or reduced price that has the same quality or quantity of the original, what do you think I’m going to do? Should I consider my moral obligation to the Motion Picture Industry, or their employees and purchase their product at any price? Hum, there is the magical question, are what point do I want to save myself some money, versus paying the retail price of your product?

So the question remains, how does the Motion Picture Industry conquer pirates? Maybe reduce the multimillion dollar contracts they offer to their leading and supporting actors? Lower the ticket prices and refreshments in the movie theater? Release all movies on DVD instead of through movie houses? Use automation to copy protect movies on DVD? I’m not sure, but one thing I do know is that attendance is significantly down at movie outlets and it has nothing to do with pirating, it’s the high cost of going to the movies, start there and work backwards folks.

50 Most Powerful Business Women

oprah_winfrey.jpgI was shocked to see that Oprah was not number one on the 50 most powerful women’s list. As reported by CNNMoney, the most powerful woman CEO’s of major companies does not include Oprah at the top, she came in 8th?

I don’t get this one, not only does she dominate the television talk show ratings, and head a magazine empire, she is now heavily involved in satellite radio broadcasting. In fact, Oprah slipped from 4th position last year. What’s left for her to take over? How could she have slipped so low in just one year, she didn’t even commit a crime?

Maybe there’s been too much emphasize on her lately, people do get jealous and this makes her a target for everything. Oh well, I guess as they say there’s only one way to go up, up, up!
