Saving Money, Try This

money.jpgWant to save money, but can’t? We all want more money to feel secure, to buy the things we want, and to have a sense of self satisfaction. It’s not easy to save money, there are countless ways to save. Your method will work for you, but not everyone will agree that your method will work for them. Without pain, there is no gain. Depending on your time line, like long term saving, such as RSP’s, or short term saving, like a few hundred dollars, your strategy will vary.

For long term savings, I use direct deposit. Every payday, my employer automatically deposits a predetermined amount of money directly into my bank account that I have set up. This method has worked great for me, it’s behind the scenes so to speak. I don’t see anything happening, and more importantly, I can’t see the money, feel it, or touch it, the transaction is invisible to me. I see the end result , my bank records the money being deposited into my account and sends me a statement. Somehow seeing the balance continue to grow gives me great satisfaction of accomplishment.

For short term savings, around a couple of hundred dollars, I collect the money in a large jar, it can be change or bills. The funny thing is I can’t see the money inside of the jar. The reason I do this is to keep the suspense going. Every so often I will count the money and I’m usually surprised by how much money I have saved. This is a personal method that works for me, kind of an ongoing game, but in the end I win, because the money is there and it’s mine.
