Harvard Gone Soft

harvard.jpgHarvard University has opted to end it’s early admission program to protect the poor. This is a new twist to an old story of Ivy league schools that cater to the rich and famous now paying attention to the lesser breed of stressed out unwealthy poor folk.

The PR statement from Harvard’s interim president, Dereck Bok, “we hope that doing away with early admission will improve the process and make it simpler and fairer.” Not sure I follow that rationale, how does this make the application process simpler? Mr. Bok continues “with students who apply early and gain admission to the college of their choice have less reason to work hard at their studies during their final year of high school.” Now there’s a role model student I want to assimilate.

Something just doesn’t seem right here, are we getting the real story or has someone pressured Harvard to rethink it’s admissions strategy, the elections are around the corner. Hum.
