Dunn Like Dinner
Patricia Dunn, current chairwoman of Hewlett-Packard, has agreed to step down into the role of Director after an investigation into Board leaks. The investigation has come under direct scrutiny for inappropriate techniques being used to gather information regarding the leaks.
HP is now facing five inquiries from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, California attorney general, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Federal Communications Commission. All sorts of allegations have erupted between senior HP executives. Apparently, HP used an outside company who sent someone to sit on the Board and monitor activity from the inside, a questionable tactic.
The “pretexting” tactics HP’s investigators used during the investigation have come under heavy review from the Justice Department and state authorities. Pretexting is a practice where someone poses as someone else in order to access their personal information.
Stay tuned, Dunn might be out as chairwoman, but who will take the overall fall for this debacle?
