Stupid Methods of Firing Staff

fired.jpgMany companies do not have a clear laid out plan for exiting their staff. Some companies are down right stupid. They believe that they have the magic solution or touch to soften the blow. They really have a strong desire to be seen by co-workers as compassionate or caring throughout the process, they don’t.

CNNMoney has run this article to on how stupid companies can be. It’s hard to believe but I have actually witnessed some of these tactics, very scary.

The communication of being fired can be as outrageous as through email, leaving organizational charts lying around, sitting in different coloured seats like a game etc. All these methods are ignorant of human emotions and carry very large scares for those effected to deal with the consequences.

The solution is simple, ask yourself, if you were to be fired, how would you like your employer to handle the situation? Chances are it’s a business decision that has been made and can not be avoided. Everyone understands that businesses must make difficult decisions, especially when it comes to their staff. Be honest and compassionate when delivering the tough message, allow for a response, good or bad, and show display some real understanding.
